The regional tourism development and marketing organisation VisitKarelia and Business Joensuu are increasing their cooperation in digital tourism development. One of the objectives of the VisitKarelia Growth Strategy 2020-2030 is to make the region digitally visible and available for purchase. This is why active measures are now being taken in the region to promote the digital competence of tourism companies.
The Digiloikka coaching programme being held in November-December 2020 will give tourism companies in the North Karelia region the opportunity to develop the online visibility of their company. The topics of the coaching include the tourism company’s website, online reservations, tourism recommendation services and customer service as well as social media. It will be implemented as part of Business Joensuu’s Tourism Goes Global project, which aims at increasing tourism and tourism investments and developing business networks.
– The online visibility of companies plays a key role in facilitating growth in our region’s tourism, both on the international market and among Finnish target groups. For example, search engine findability and electronic booking systems for services are basic elements in growth-oriented companies, explains Development Manager Jaani Holma from Business Joensuu.
The training sessions are open and free of charge for all tourism companies in the North Karelia and Heinävesi regions. After the training has ended, companies in the Business Joensuu area will have the opportunity to continue their development work with professional coaches and a programme specifically tailored for the company.
– We’re also negotiating with other North Karelia development companies concerning opportunities to provide similar expert coaching after the training has been completed. Early next year, the cooperation between the Tourism Goes Global project and VisitKarelia will expand to include another programme that supports companies as they complete sustainable tourism certificates, says Account Manager Anna Härkönen from VisitKarelia.
