One of the most advanced manufacturing and subcontracting clusters in the metal and plastic industry in Finland

In addition to international companies operating in the Joensuu region, such as John Deere Forestry, Abloy and Phillips-Medisize, there is a significant network of system suppliers and subcontractors in the region. This network, originally created to support export companies, operates in a versatile manner, from product and equipment design through various work stages (including sheet metal work, edge-cutting, welding, machining, surface treatment) to an assembled and tested final product.

The group of over 30 companies in the plastics sector is unique nationally and abroad.

Premises available with good connections

The success of industrial companies in the Joensuu region is supported by excellent transport connections. The trip to Helsinki only takes an hour by plane, four by train. Joensuu also offers great connections for freight transport through Russia to China. Access to Europe’s largest ports through the deep-water harbour takes only 4-5 days.

In addition to fantastic traffic connections, Joensuu’s business areas have been developed in a way that they can also provide other concrete benefits to companies. Joensuu offers a variety of plots of land for companies in different parts of the city. Business parks offer perks to companies relocating to Joensuu in terms of energy production and the optimisation of material flow.

GreenPark, located next to the deep-water harbour, is a new type of business park designed specifically for the needs of cleantech, wood and metal industry companies. A traditional business park only gathers companies in the same area – GreenPark, on the other hand, has been developed to serve joint operations between John Deere and its supplier network, among other things.

In addition to GreenPark, other industrial parks in the area (Papinkangas, Marjala and Outokumpu) are continuously being developed in cooperation with companies operating and located there.

Premises available with good connections

Many are surprised that as many as 20,000 of the 120,000 inhabitants of the Joensuu region are students. The University of Eastern Finland, Karelia University of Applied Sciences and the Riveria Vocational School provide high-quality education for students wanting to work on industrial fields. According to statistics, every third person living in Joensuu is under 30 years old.
